Modularization Lead
Blykalla is scaling quickly in order to industrialize our small modular reactor (SMR) concept. If you are passionate about nuclear technology and want to make a significant impact, join us!
What we do at Blykalla
Blykalla is a global leader in advanced nuclear technology, commercialising the next generation of clean, reliable energy through its lead-cooled reactor, the SEALER. By combining decades of specialised research with world-class partners, Blykalla is building the backbone of the global AI and industrial economy. What you’ll get to do
We are looking for a Modularization Lead to make our SEALER reactor cost-competitive by design. Small reactors lack the economies of scale of large plants – our business case depends on a reactor built in factories, from standard components, with every design choice weighed against cost and value. You will own that agenda across our reactor development program.
This is a role for someone who wants to shape the product, not review it afterwards. You will sit at the table where design decisions are made and have the mandate to change how they are made.
Key responsibilities include:
Own and drive design-to-value across our reactor development program – break cost, availability, and schedule targets down to system level and hold design choices against them
Implement design-to-value ways of working in the design and engineering team – processes, design reviews, rules, and tools that make cost and value part of every design decision.
Define and own the modularization strategy and roadmap – degree of modularization, module boundaries, standardized interfaces, and the path from first-of-a-kind to fleet.
Drive component standardization and COTS – standard before custom, across systems and plant units.
Enable a reactor designed for factory production – off-site fabrication, pre-testing, transport, and fast site assembly, together with suppliers.
Who you’ll get to work with
The Modularization Lead sits in the Product team within Blykalla, and reports to the Head of Product. You will work daily with design engineering, cost engineering, procurement, and construction, and closely with suppliers and partners. We are a diverse team that is passionate about our work and Blykalla.
Who you are
You will be part of a highly skilled team with a can-do attitude. We value personnel chemistry and strive to create a workplace where you enjoy coming to. You have taken a complex engineered product from one-off engineering to standardized, factory-built modules – and you know that cost is decided at the drawing board, not on site. You are comfortable challenging designers on why a component is custom, and credible enough that they listen.
You will be part of a highly skilled team with a can-do attitude. We value personnel chemistry and strive to create a workplace where you enjoy coming to. There are however a few things that we think will help for you to succeed in this role, these are:
8+ years in modularization, design-to-value/design-to-cost, or industrialization of complex engineered products (e.g., shipbuilding, offshore, process plants, aerospace, automotive, or energy).
Proven track record of moving a product towards standardized, factory-built modules and COTS components.
Hands-on with design-to-value methods – target costing, cost teardowns, value engineering, and trade studies.
Strong understanding of interface management, manufacturing, transport, and site assembly constraints.
Ability to change how engineering teams work – introducing processes that stick, not just documents.
Clear and structured communication – you can make the cost case to both engineers and executives.
Fluent in English, spoken and written.
Fluency in Swedish is a plus.
We don’t expect candidates to already know the nuclear industry – we are looking for someone who has industrialized complex products elsewhere and wants to apply it to a first-of-a-kind reactor. Exposure to some of the areas below is a plus, not a checklist.
Meritorious skills:
Experience from nuclear or other regulated, safety-classified industries.
Modular plant construction – e.g., structural modules, skid-based process modules, open-top installation.
Modular product architecture or platform design in serial production.
3D/BIM, PLM, or digital tools for layout, cost tracking, and decision support.
Experience building a new function or capability from scratch.
If you are not sure that you are 100% qualified but are up to the challenge, we encourage you to apply.

Reference & Background Checks
As part of our recruitment process, we conduct background checks on all candidates. We may also conduct reference checks to gain a well-rounded understanding of your professional experience, performance, and ways of working. This includes both references provided by you and, where relevant, conversations with other professional contacts who have worked closely with you. About Blykalla
Blykalla is a global leader in advanced lead-cooled nuclear technology. Its small modular reactor, the SEALER, delivers 55 MWe per unit and is designed to provide clean baseload power when and where it's needed, from heavy industry to AI infrastructure.
Lead has been used as a reactor coolant since the 1960s, but corrosion has historically hindered commercial viability. Blykalla's founders solved that problem with a self-healing steel - the result of more than 25 years of research. Now the company is taking lead-cooled nuclear technology to market, developing factory-built reactors designed for serial production and true co-location with the industries they serve.
Blykalla is growing fast, with offices in Stockholm, New York, and Austin, and multiple reactor parks under development.
